Yesterday morning John Shull, James Vancleave and WW Rush, residing near New Market, loaded tents, fishing tackle and camping paraphernalia into a wagon and started for a point on Sugar Creek a short distance below Indian Ford, where they were joined by Frank Jamison and son. It was their intention to spend a couple of days hunting and fishing but the festivities were brought to a sudden end on the eve of the first day by a distressing accident which befell and resulted in the death of one of their number. Last evening they were in the creek and though their purpose is not exactly clear it is intimated that there may have been a seine in operation. But be that as it may, Shull was seized with the cramp and despite his struggles and the efforts of his frightened companions sank in 8' of water. The unconscious form was recovered in about 3 minutes, it is claimed, but life was extinct and although his comrades used every means to restore respiration their efforts were wholly in vain. Shortly thereafter a couple of sons of the unfortunate victim arrived to spend the night and the form of their father, shrouded in a horse blanket, was pointed out but the young men thought it was a hoax and laughed and joked before they were finally convinced that there had been a catastrophe. A messenger was dispatched to this city for an undertaker and John Swank, Barnhills' assistant, responded. He started in a buggy accompanied by his brother, Dave Swank, and enroute an accident occurred which came within an ace of costing the occupants their lives. They were driving along an unfamiliar road in the vicinity of Indian Ford when their horse balked and backed over a steep 60' embankment. The outfit and the occupants made a rapid descent in a promiscuous heap and the wonder is both were not seriously injured. Fortunately however they escaped after a terrible shaking up and a number of bad bruises. They were able to continue the remaining short distance of their journey afoot and rendered professional services at the camp of sorrow. John Shull, the deceased was 60 years of age and leaves a widow and five children. The funeral will occur at New Market. - typed by kbz

The funeral services of John Shull, who, was drowned below Indian Ford, Monday evening, occurred at New Market today, Rev. McCalip officiating. The remains were brought to this city for interment at Masonic Cemetery. - kbz
